I was warned.

My god does this movie have problems.

Confusingly, several chunks of this movie are quite good.

The fight scenes are especially good. They’re filmed in a new way I have not seen before. I hope to see more fight scenes filmed like that. It was almost like a go-pro but without inducing vertigo in me.

I have very mixed feelings.

There were some parts that I liked, even loved. Chunks of goodness.

Finally saw The Guest. I’d been putting it off for some time, saving it for “the right time” or something. Saw it today with teenybuffalo and our friend.

So it wasn't as amazing as I wanted it to be, but my gods was it FUN and ENTERTAINING and JUST WHAT I NEEDED. The boyfriend and I had a great (late) Valentine's date seeing it today.

There was a healthy crowd and there was much laughing and yelling at the ridiculous bits, of which there were many.

The Book of Life was GLORIOUS!

Made me feel like a little kid again, that sense of wonder at seeing a movie. All the colors and gorgeous designs and the heroic characters and heartfelt storytelling.

I am SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW. It’s beautiful and lovely and just … just wonderful.

Even better than I thought it’d be, and I was expecting it to be good.

Yeah. It's just sad. Really sad.

Let's get the good stuff out of the way.

Visually this is, of course, an impressive and amazing film. Stop-motion of this quality is awesome. There are microexpressions and smooth transitions and epic action scenes. My disappointment with this film has nothing at all to do with the animation.
